The IICO held a workshop to strengthen the mechanism of work with United Nations agencies

The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has recently held at its headquarters, in South Surra, a workshop to enhance the mechanism of work with United Nations agencies, in coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA(.

 The workshop had been organized by the Global Center for Studies of Charitable Work of the Organization, in the presence of a host of officials of the concerned departments in the IICO, and the participation of a number of leaders of UN organizations in the region via the Internet, led by the representatives of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA(. As well as the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT), the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM(, the World Food Program (WFP), The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF(.

The workshop discussed the general policies and procedures regulating partnerships and cooperation between the IICO, and the United Nations agencies, funds and programs, and ways to develop a common understanding of facing challenges and realizing opportunities in humanitarian work. The discussion has also tackled the executive details of the joint funding projects between the IICO, and the United Nations agencies, the methods of supporting the external operations of the IICO, and many details of common interest.

The participants exchanged their views, frankly and clearly, on the challenges in the field of partnership.

The workshop was held within the framework of the IICO’s endeavor to build and expand its strategic partnerships, and maximize the benefit of its humanitarian interventions, in order to serve its lofty mission to empower people educationally, culturally and economically, and achieve sustainable development in the communities in which it operates.

The workshop recommended the necessity of investing and expanding the partnership between the IICO, and the United Nations agencies, in order to include knowledge transfer initiatives and activities, preparing programs for capacity building of cadres and institutional development for the IICO, Kuwaiti local bodies and international partners. As well as making use of the spread of United Nations agencies and their ability to work in hard-to-reach areas for political reasons, and they also agreed to develop a unified business model for future partnership agreements.
