The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) renewed the sponsorship of 3,317 students from the children of Syrian refugees for the academic year 2022/2023, as part of its continuous support for the project to sponsor science students in Kuwait Charitable Schools in Lebanon, affiliated with the Association for Human Excellence, which embraces about 9 thousand male and female students under the slogan “We build People to make the Future”.
The project seeks to provide educational opportunities for the children of Syrian refugees in Lebanon in Kuwait’s charitable schools, by sponsoring them educationally, paying registration and transportation fees, costs of stationery, books, and school uniforms. As well as preparing accompanying programs, while developing the educational system, qualifying its employees according to the latest quality systems, and instilling moral values in the hearts of students to be useful to themselves, their families, and society.
Furthermore, the project also aims to protect refugee children from dropping out of school and begging. As well as to provide integrated educational sponsorship and services of the highest possible quality in accordance with the standards of education in emergencies, in addition to integrating Syrian students into Lebanese society.
The objectives of the project intersect with the strategic objectives of the education program at the IICO, by providing educational opportunities that achieve qualitative outcomes for the children of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and promoting sustainable development goals by providing quality education for vulnerable groups.
In light of the deteriorating economic conditions in Lebanon, the importance of having a pioneering educational system in emergencies, raising a generation aware of its reality and shaping its future, and building an effective partnership between charity organizations and academic work, in order to achieve integration of the education system in emergencies, is evident.
In addition, the project also contributes to shaping an educational environment concerned with inculcating good values and morals, providing job opportunities for teachers and administrators from the children of Syrian refugees, as well as enhancing the spirit of belonging and national identity among refugees.
The values of the project are manifested in empowering people educationally and culturally, to be able to make a positive impact in their society, to provide education of the highest possible quality in accordance with the standards of education in emergencies, to build bridges of cooperation between the parties participating in the project, and to enhance the spirit of belonging to the host country and the motherland.
In addition to providing quality education opportunities for the children of Syrian refugees through a value-based educational system, distinguished programs, and activities with qualified management, job opportunities are being provided for 130 teachers and administrators of Syrian educational competencies, and they are qualified according to the latest quality systems.
Moreover, the project focuses on paying attention to the psychological factor of Syrian children after the conditions of the war, qualifying them to adapt to these conditions, and instilling educational values and morals in the hearts of students, in order to build a generation on a sound scientific and religious basis. As well as inculcating a spirit of work, bearing responsibility, respecting the rights of others, and instilling the meanings of citizenship among students.
The file of the Syrian refugees is considered one of the most catastrophic humanitarian files, given the serious humanitarian, social, economic, and educational dimensions left by the refugee community, especially in the field of education, which prompted the Association for Human Excellence to establish Kuwait Charitable Schools in Lebanon that accommodate 9,000 students.
In this context, international and global organizations call for the need to ensure the right to quality education for people, regardless of their sex, gender, or religion, along with access to quality education and opportunities for lifelong learning in accordance with the fourth goal of the United Nations’ objectives.
According to international statistics, the number of Syrian refugee children deprived of education exceeds two and a half million children, and those studying in some schools may not receive appropriate education, whether at the level of curricula, unqualified schools, or an unattractive environment. Therefore, the learning difficulties project aims to overcome many challenges.
In addition, the IICO, in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank, the Islamic Fund for Development, the Association for Human Excellence, and prestigious academic organizations in Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon, continues its efforts to support the educational system for Syrian refugees, through a project to build compensatory programs for learning difficulties in the curricula in order to qualify teachers. As well as to support educational institutions in emergencies and address student problems.
Furthermore, the project to design compensatory programs for learning difficulties in the curricula of Syrian refugees also aims to reduce the phenomenon of school dropouts in Lebanon, Jordan, and northern Syria, with the participation of experts, academics, coordinators, teachers, and researchers.
The strategic orientations of the IICO focus on the education file in the countries and regions most in need, as part of its relentless endeavor to build people, empower them, and develop their abilities and skills, so that they have the tools for a positive impact in their society.
