Guterres and Dr. Al-Maatouq discuss the latest developments in the humanitarian scene

The Chairman of the IICODr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq, has informed the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, of the most prominent relief, humanitarian and development efforts exerted by the IICO in Syria, Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan, under the difficult humanitarian conditions these countries are suffering from, as a result of conflicts and disasters.

Dr. Al-Maatouq, who holds the position of Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has also discussed the latest developments of the Sustainable Development Foundation that the IICO seeks to establish, in search of sustainable solutions to the phenomenon of poverty, and in the execution of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

The UN meeting, which was held on November 4th, had discussed a number of humanitarian issues, the most prominent of which are concerns related to global food security, especially with the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as the two countries are among the world’s largest wheat exporters.

It is worth noting that Dr. Al-Maatouq has held the position of Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations since 2017 to date.

The Chairman of the IICO has served as the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs under former Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and for four consecutive years from 2012 to 2016. Dr. Al-Maatouq, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, from time to time, meets him, in order to discuss some humanitarian issues and their repercussions in the afflicted countries.
