Al-Sumait’s visit to Indonesia… Inauguration of quality projects and laying the foundation stone for educational and cultural institutions

As part of his field follow-up to charitable and development projects, the Director General of the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO), Eng. Bader Saud Al-Sumait has recently visited Indonesia, during which he inaugurated a number of projects, laid the foundation stone for some projects, inspected others, and distributed copies of the Noble Qur’an and food aids to some people.

In addition, the visit included laying the foundation stone for an orphanage, a canteen, and a restaurant, Dar Najma for teaching the Holy Qur’an, the late Nawaf Al-Enezi Mosque, the inauguration of the late Ali Saleh Al-Lahib Mosque. As well as a visit to several educational projects that were established with the support of philanthropists in Kuwait, for the benefit of vulnerable segments of society.

In this context, Al-Sumait began his visit with the inspection tours to a number of projects executed by the IICO in cooperation with the Indonesian Kuwaiti Charitable Association, including Dar Al-Salaam Institute in the Village of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in West Java State.

The institute was established in 1986, with an area of ​​13 hectares, and it started its activity through a small mosque and two schools with 19 male and female students, and 10 teachers. However, with the advent of Kuwaiti charitable support, the institute’s activity expanded and its premises increased, as it includes now 4950 male and female students, among them 450 male and female orphans, and the number of its teachers reached 233 male and female teachers.

At the Village of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, Al-Sumait attended the graduation ceremony of 40 memorizers of the Holy Qura’n, within the Al-Shafea’ Project for the memorization of the Holy Qur’an. He also inaugurated Al-Laheeb Mosque, and laid the foundation stone for Nawaf Bareh Al-Enezi Mosque on an area of ​​100 square meters.

In the same context, Al-Sumait moved to Bantan Governorate, where he visited Dar Al-Azhar Institute for Modern Islamic Education, which was established in 1995, on an area of ​​12.5 hectares, in which 1200 male and female students study, with 130 teachers. There, he also participated in laying the foundation stone for two new projects within Dar Al-Azhar Institute, one of which is an orphanage, a canteen, and a restaurant with the support of the donor, Abdul Wahed Al-Zayd, which will be built on an area of ​​288 square meters, as the orphanage will serve 64 orphans.

Furthermore, he also laid the foundation stone for Najma Center for memorizing of the Noble Qur’an, which accommodates 60 students, and includes two memorization classrooms. He also inspected Al-Noor Project at Al-Karji Mosque, which serves 500 male and female students.

Before leaving Bantan, Al-Sumait participated in distributing food aids to 150 poor and needy families in the Bantan region, with a donation from a benefactor in Kuwait. The Director General also inspected some of the projects implemented by the IICO, in cooperation with Beit Charitable Society, including the Islamic Secondary Institute for Girls in Dar Al Marhama in the Bogor region of West Java State, which is about 45 minutes away from the capital, Jakarta. In addition, he distributed 300 copies of the Noble Quran with the translation of the meanings into the Indonesian Language to the students of the Institute.

As part of his visit to the region, Al-Sumait attended a ceremony for the blind people who memorized the Holy Qur’an, and participated in distributing 500 copies of the Holy Qur’an in Braille to them.

The project of translating the meanings of the Holy Qur’an into the Indonesian Language is one of the projects adopted by the “Two Dinars Initiative” of the IICO.

Moreover, Al-Sumait also visited the Eye Operations Specialist Hospital and met its general manager, then, he attended some surgical operations carried out by Beit Charitable Society for the Poor, using modern equipment, and participated in distributing prosthetic limbs to the needy.

At the end of the trip, the Director-General visited the Higher Institute of Islamic Economics of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in West Java, in which 1,200 male and female students are studying, and from which 1900 male and female have graduated, so far.

It is worth noting that Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia and includes 17,508 islands, with a population of about 238 million people. This makes it the fourth most populous country in the world, as well as the largest country with a Muslim majority population.

Java, home to more than half of the country’s population, is the world’s largest inhabited island. Indonesia shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Malaysia.

Indonesia is one of the founding member states of ASEAN, and a member of the G20 for major economies. The Indonesian economy is the eighteenth in the world in terms of nominal Gross Domestic Product “GDP”, and the fifteenth in terms of purchasing power.
