The Kuwaiti charities at the headquarters of the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) discussed ways of cooperation and partnership with the Turkish IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, regarding the establishment of the “Kuwait Al-Khair Residential City” project for the Displaced Syrians in the city of Aleppo, northern Syria. It consists of 72 buildings, with 1008 housing units, and a number of health, education, and services facilities, at a total cost of about $ 10 million.

This statement is declared during a coordination meeting chaired by the Chairman of the International Islamic Charity Organization, Dr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq, in the presence of the Chairman of the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Authority, Fahmi Bulent Yildirim and his accompanying delegation, and a cohort of heads and leaders of Kuwaiti charities.

He expressed his sincere appreciation for the pioneering humanitarian role of the Turkish Republic and its humanitarian organizations in caring for millions of Arab and Muslim refugees, especially the Syrian brothers, noting that Turkey now tops the list of countries hosting refugees in the world.

Furthermore, he pointed out that this extended partnership with the IHH has ever since resulted in the launch of 49 development, educational, cultural, relief and health projects at a total cost of $22 million in support of Syrian refugees in Turkey. As well as the displaced Syrians in the northern Syrian regions, the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, and the vulnerable people in Pakistan, earthquake victims in Indonesia and Turkey.

Dr. Al-Maatouq described the Turkish IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation as a well-established foundation with great capabilities in working in conflict areas, due to its official support, tools, logistical capabilities, and external offices around the world.

In addition, he pointed out that organizing such meetings constitutes a crucial opportunity to exchange experiences and open new horizons for cooperation and coordination within the joint humanitarian goals aimed at building people and empowering them economically, educationally, and culturally so that they are able to improve their quality of life and positively influence their society.

He expressed his high expectations that these meetings would result in constructive and fruitful cooperation, which would benefit the marginalized groups and the neediest; hoping that Kuwaiti charities will ally to support this project that bears the name of Kuwait to alleviate the suffering of the displaced Syrians.

For his part, the Chairman of the Turkish IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, Fahmi Bulent Yildirim, expressed his appreciation for the leading humanitarian role of the State of Kuwait. For their part, the heads and leaders of charitable work raised many questions and inquiries about the security situation in the northern Syrian regions, and the mechanisms of control and auditing of implementation processes, which the Turkish side answered that the town will be erected on the Syrian-Turkish border in safe areas. And that they welcome the participation of Kuwaiti entities in the control and supervision of implementation work.

In the same context, the Kuwaiti charitable leaders suggested forming a committee of heads and leaders of charitable societies to manage this humanitarian file.
